Where is Waldo?!? (At least that’s how I feel!)

Okay so it’s definitely been awhile since I blogged. What can I say other then life happened? We went on a weekend vacation to see some friends we hadn’t seen since we moved and had a great time! On the way home…not so much. Ava and I came home with a stomach flu bug. FUN…not. I fought it off within 24 hours. Ava not so much…so we spent all of last week “recovering.”
So now that we are physically recovered and back to our normal selves…time to play catch up! I may have not been blogging BUT I have kept up on my projects!
I did try out making homemade body wash and I tried out a new shower cleaner! So I’ll be writing two separate posts on that.
I’m still debating on how to go about posting recipes. I’ve been thinking about just posting about the overall “rating” in our household and the actual recipe. I keep a list of recipes that we liked and when I get a chance I go and copy the recipe down to put in my recipe box.
What do you all think?

Pesky Plastic Bags…Project #2

Now I technically had gotten this done before I “started” the blog, but for all you have inquired…here’s the recipe to reclaiming that space back where these things seem to clone themselves! **Forewarning…it is slightly tedious…I had Ava trying to “help” in her own special way so it took a little longer then usual!**

So first flatten all your bags and get them nice and folded

Next fold them all in half, like so. I did mine with the Walmart sign out. I had mine grouped in piles of 12. I wasn’t sure how it would do with more then that. **plus if you do use a Lysol container it might get a little “crowded”**

After you have them all folded in half put them all out in a row but overlapping each other the very first one needs to have the handles pointing up (it’s your starting point) and then start rolling!

Rolling was kind of hard, but the air that is in the bags will let out as you roll it. But when you get them all rolled up…it should look like this

I didn’t make the fancy container. I was just happy to have a whole cupboard back!

Now I will say that since I have done this pin I have had to use some plastic bags and it does WORK! It leaves you with the next one ready for when you need it. So much easier and much more compact so you can have that space for something else! Did I mention Todd made fun of me? He does it lovingly of course, but he has not complained about the fact that they are not falling out of the cupboard!! So I would say SUCCESS!

I found this pin and it led me to this website

Evaporating the smells…project #1 Deodorizing disks!

I feel like my whole week has been thrown off since New Year’s Eve was on Monday, but I keep thinking that it was over the weekend…needless to say I have to keep double checking the calendar! Whoops! So far I have not done to shabby on my New Year’s “projects,” I have accomplished a few work outs, eating decently, and of course my first Pinterest project is complete, “Deodorizing disks.” Todd and I both love a clean house…a clean FRESH smelling house, which means tackling on how to keep the garbage can “smelling fresh” at all times! This why I love Pinterest!! You can randomly come upon different ideas all the time! Now I have a very quick crawling nine month old (and almost walking!) so Pinterest pin hunting is saved for nap time and bed time. When I discovered this pin, making deodorizing disks…at first I was a skeptical, could something like this seriously be made that will actually work? And what do you know…it does!!! I made these on New Year’s Day. SO simple! I did go out and purchase a silicone mold mainly because I will use it for many different things. I found mine at Michael’s it was originally $9.99 but I had a 40% off coupon, so I ended up spending only $6 and some change! Anyways, it’s only a few ingredients that took to make these “magic” disks. Main ingredient? Baking soda…of course right? (I swear every “homemade cleaning agent” either has baking soda or vinegar) It also calls for essential oils…I cheated. I just got the oil that you use for bamboo sticks and things like that (it says essential oils in the ingredients…close enough in my book) that only was $2 at Walmart. So now to make these things…

“Magic” Deodorizing Disks

2 c. baking soda
1-2 c. distilled water (I just boiled my water like the lady suggested)
Your choice of essential oil scent (I already admitted…I cheated…hahaha…I did use Caribbean Breeze)
Silicone mold or muffin tin

Okay now to make it, I had my baking soda all measured out in a little mixing bowl, I would gradually add water, 1/2 c. at a time (for the essential oil…add 3-4 drops every 1/2c) I made a mistake of adding all 2 cups of water at once. It was too much, so mine the first time around were a little crumbly. They didn’t harden very well from all the extra water. You want the baking soda/water/essential oil to become a thick paste. Then divide it up into your mold or tin.

This is what it looks like once it’s all in the mold…now the fun part…waiting. I waited 48 hours before I popped them out of the mold. Like I said before mine were more crumbly because I used too much water the first time around.

BUT they work! Yesterday I was on a cleaning binge (the downstairs first, and today will be the upstairs!) so I decided to see if they work…I put one in our garbage can, I didn’t put a liner in because I wanted to see if it actually worked…oh my does it work! The garbage can smells AH-MAZING!!!!! I was so excited…so I ran upstairs and put one in our bathroom garbage and Ava’s diaper pail. I was so happy that it took care of the smell! YAY! I am pretty sure I did a happy dance in the kitchen…hahaha. I have 3 extra so I just put them in a ziploc baggy and put them underneath the kitchen sink for later use. The lady on her website said they last about a month or so. We shall see…I’ll do an update later down to let you all know!

I will be posting either tomorrow or Saturday my recipes of the week! Have a good afternoon!

Here’s the link to the website that I got the recipe from!

The Idea began…

This ecard cracks me up every time because it’s so unbelievably TRUE! Granted I love wine, but I am not a huge drinker since we had gotten pregnant back in June 2011, our daughter was born at the end of March 2012 and I have been breastfeeding ever since. BUT I do love Pinterest! I love cooking and I am really enjoying making things homemade. I have been on a cooking kick since July and let me tell you how that came about…

Todd had himself convinced that I did not know how to cook…at all. Sure, I could boil water, make pasta, make pancakes from a box, and I might make cookies here and there, but I hadn’t shown any interest on actually cooking. We had been together over a year at this point and I am almost positive that he believed that he was going to starve OR we were constantly going to be ordering out.

So at this point, Todd made me a bet that I could not make 30 meals in a row that he liked. I took this as a challenge and since I do NOT like being wrong at any point and time, I set out to prove him wrong. Now people might say he tricked me into getting in the kitchen and/or he got the better end of the deal, but I do like to give him the credit of opening up the door to how much I absolutely like LOVE cooking and baking. He probably would tell people that he created a little monster because I have been a baking and cooking machine since then and Pinterest has opened up the doors to “recipe heaven.”

I guess this is where my “project” ended up coming from…mainly because I am constantly experimenting with things on Pinterest, so now it was time to figure out how to turn it into a hobby. Plus, I do like sharing the successes of the pins because I am almost positive 90% of my female friends are on Pinterest, so it makes it even more fun. So Todd’s mom, Rhonda, and I had been chatting away about recipes on Pinterest. She then started telling me how I needed to start blogging about the things I make…and that is where this whole thing started AND just in time for New Years. What a way to start the year!

Although, I have decided to no longer call “New Year’s Resolutions”….well, resolutions. I like the idea of calling them “projects.” The word “resolution” by definition is the act of resolving or determining upon an action or course of action, method, procedure, etc. found at here. I don’t like saying I “determined” my action, so I’ve decided to enlist them all as “projects,” an ongoing process that I will be continually working on through out the year. So my other “project” is to get into a running routine and run a 5k by April. Todd and I both decided we would try to find a 5k to enter into that month. BUT the biggest event (in my opinion) is Ava’s first birthday at the end of March!! I’m so excited and sad that she is getting so close to her first birthday but I am enjoying every minute of watching her grow!

Anyways…that is how this “project” came about…now hang on for the ride!
